Your right to be forgotten — honoured in full.
Locwire collects location data, trip history, account information, and Wire membership data solely to power its services. You may request deletion of all personal data at any time, free of charge, with no justification required. All personal data is permanently deleted within 45 days of a verified deletion request.
Live GPS / GPRS location coordinates are never stored server-side — they are streamed in real time and never persisted. Trip history is retained for 7 days only, then automatically purged regardless of any deletion request.
Locwire.com ("Locwire", "we", "us", or "our") is a real-time location sharing mobile application that enables users to create and join private location groups called Wires. Within a Wire, all members appear on a shared live map with their current positions tracked via GPS or GPRS. The platform also records individual trip journeys in real time and stores them as a 7-day trip history for each user.
This Data Deletion Policy explains precisely what personal data Locwire collects, how long it is retained, under what circumstances it is deleted, and how you may exercise your right to have your data permanently erased. We are committed to full transparency about our data practices and to honouring every deletion request promptly and completely.
This policy applies to all users of the Locwire mobile application on iOS and Android, and to all data collected through our integration with Apple Maps and Google Maps location services.
Locwire collects the following categories of personal data in order to deliver its core features:
When you register and use Locwire, we collect:
Location data is the core of Locwire's service. We access your location through two modes:
Important — Live location coordinates (latitude, longitude, speed, and heading) are streamed in real time to Wire members on the shared map and are NEVER stored on Locwire's servers. They exist only in memory during an active Wire session and are cleared immediately when you leave the Wire or close the app.
Apple Maps and Google Maps are used exclusively as the rendering and routing layer. Location data shared with these providers is governed by Apple's and Google's respective privacy policies. Locwire does not receive, store, or control any data that is passed directly between your device and Apple or Google mapping services.
When you travel with location sharing active inside a Wire, Locwire records your trip as a structured log. Each trip entry includes:
Trip history data is retained for exactly 7 calendar days from the date of the trip, after which it is automatically and permanently deleted from all Locwire systems. You may also request immediate deletion at any time.
The table below summarises every category of data Locwire holds, how long it is retained, and how it is deleted:
| Data Category | Examples | Retention Period | Deletion Method |
|---|---|---|---|
| Account Information | Email address, display name, profile photo, password hash | Until account deletion request | Permanently purged within 30 days |
| Live Location Data | Real-time GPS / GPRS coordinates, speed, heading | Not stored — streamed in real time | Never persisted; cleared from memory on Wire exit |
| Trip History | Route paths, timestamps, stop points, distance, speed logs | 7 days from trip date | Auto-purged daily; deleted immediately on request |
| Wire Membership | Wire name, invite code, member list, role (admin/member) | Until Wire is disbanded or member leaves | Purged within 30 days of account deletion |
| In-app Messages | Chat messages sent within a Wire group | 30 days from send date | Auto-deleted; removed immediately on request |
| Device & Technical Data | Device model, OS version, app version, crash logs | 90 days | Purged from analytics systems within 90 days |
| Map Interaction Data | Viewport bounds, zoom levels, map type preference (Apple / Google) | Session only | Cleared on app close; not stored server-side |
| Notification Preferences | Alert settings for arrivals, departures, Wire activity | Until account deletion | Deleted with account within 30 days |
Under applicable data protection law — including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDPA) 2023, and equivalent regional legislation — you have the unqualified right to request the permanent deletion of all personal data Locwire holds about you. This right is sometimes called the "right to erasure" or the "right to be forgotten".
When you submit a full account deletion request, Locwire will permanently and irreversibly delete:
The following narrow exceptions apply — data may be retained beyond the standard deletion window ONLY where:
You do not have to delete your entire account. You may also request partial deletion of:
There are three ways to request deletion of your data:
| Channel | How to Use It | Response Time |
|---|---|---|
| Send a request to privacy@locwire.com with subject line "Data Deletion Request" | Acknowledgment within 24 hours; deletion within 45 days |
To verify your identity and process your request securely, please provide:
We will never ask for your password, payment card details, or government-issued ID as part of a data deletion request.
Once we receive and verify your request, deletion proceeds in the following stages:
| Timeline | Action | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Day 0 | Request received | User submits deletion request via app Settings or email to privacy@locwire.com |
| Day 1 | Confirmation email sent | Automated acknowledgment sent to registered email with a unique reference number |
| Days 1–3 | Live & session data cleared | Any cached location data, active Wire sessions, and in-memory data removed immediately |
| Days 1–7 | Trip history purged | All 7-day trip logs, route paths, and stop data permanently deleted from servers |
| Days 1–14 | Messages and Wire data removed | In-app messages, Wire membership records, invite codes, and group data deleted |
| Days 14–30 | Account and profile deleted | Email, display name, profile photo, notification preferences, and device data purged |
| Days 30–45 | Third-party systems cleared | Data removed from analytics providers, crash reporting services, and backup systems |
| Day 45 | Completion confirmation | Final confirmation email sent confirming 100% deletion with reference number |
If we are unable to complete deletion within 45 days due to a legal hold or exceptional technical circumstance, we will notify you by email before Day 30 explaining the reason and the expected extended completion date.
Locwire operates automated deletion schedules that run independently of user-initiated requests. You do not need to take any action for the following automatic deletions to occur:
A background job runs daily at 02:00 UTC and permanently deletes any trip history records that are older than 7 calendar days. This applies to all users without exception. Trip data cannot be recovered once deleted.
Messages sent within Wire groups are automatically deleted 30 days after the send date. Wire administrators cannot override this deletion schedule.
Anonymised crash reports and device telemetry data are automatically purged after 90 days from all analytics and monitoring systems.
If your account has had no login activity for 24 consecutive months, Locwire will send a 30-day reactivation notice to your registered email. If the account remains inactive after this notice period, all associated data will be permanently deleted in line with this policy.
Wires are private location groups that may contain data belonging to multiple users. The following rules govern deletion of Wire-associated data:
When you leave a Wire:
If you are the Wire administrator and you choose to delete the Wire:
If you delete your account while you are a member of one or more active Wires:
Locwire uses Apple Maps on iOS and Google Maps on both iOS and Android as the underlying map rendering and location services layer. It is important to understand how data flows through these integrations:
Apple and Google may independently collect technical data related to map rendering, traffic, and search features as part of their mapping SDKs. This data is governed entirely by Apple's Privacy Policy (apple.com/privacy) and Google's Privacy Policy (policies.google.com/privacy). Locwire's data deletion process does not extend to data held independently by Apple or Google.
If you wish to request deletion of data held by Apple Maps or Google Maps, you must submit those requests directly to Apple and Google respectively.
Neither GPS nor GPRS coordinates are stored by Locwire beyond the active real-time session. They are transmitted to Wire members' devices for display and are not written to any Locwire database.
Locwire is intended for users aged 13 and above. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under the age of 13.
If you are the parent or legal guardian of a user under 13 whose data has been collected without your consent, or if you are the parent of a user between 13 and 17 and wish to request deletion of their data, please contact us at privacy@locwire.com with:
Parental deletion requests are processed with the same 45-day timeline and are treated with the highest priority.
Before submitting a deletion request, you may wish to export a copy of your data. Locwire supports data export through:
Once deletion is processed, exported data in your possession remains your responsibility. Locwire cannot recover deleted data after the process is complete.
