Policy at a Glance

Locwire collects location data, trip history, account information, and Wire membership data solely to power its services. You may request deletion of all personal data at any time, free of charge, with no justification required. All personal data is permanently deleted within 45 days of a verified deletion request.

Live GPS / GPRS location coordinates are never stored server-side — they are streamed in real time and never persisted. Trip history is retained for 7 days only, then automatically purged regardless of any deletion request.

1. Introduction

Locwire.com ("Locwire", "we", "us", or "our") is a real-time location sharing mobile application that enables users to create and join private location groups called Wires. Within a Wire, all members appear on a shared live map with their current positions tracked via GPS or GPRS. The platform also records individual trip journeys in real time and stores them as a 7-day trip history for each user.

This Data Deletion Policy explains precisely what personal data Locwire collects, how long it is retained, under what circumstances it is deleted, and how you may exercise your right to have your data permanently erased. We are committed to full transparency about our data practices and to honouring every deletion request promptly and completely.

This policy applies to all users of the Locwire mobile application on iOS and Android, and to all data collected through our integration with Apple Maps and Google Maps location services.

2. Data We Collect

Locwire collects the following categories of personal data in order to deliver its core features:

2.1 Account Data

When you register and use Locwire, we collect:

• Email address (used for account verification and communication)
• Display name and optional profile photo
• Encrypted password hash (your plain-text password is never stored)
• Account creation timestamp and last-login record

2.2 Location Data

Location data is the core of Locwire's service. We access your location through two modes:

• GPS Mode — satellite-based positioning with accuracy typically within 3–5 metres. Used outdoors for precise route tracking.
• GPRS Mode — cell-tower triangulation used as a fallback when GPS signals are unavailable (indoors, tunnels, dense urban areas), with accuracy within 50–200 metres.

Important — Live location coordinates (latitude, longitude, speed, and heading) are streamed in real time to Wire members on the shared map and are NEVER stored on Locwire's servers. They exist only in memory during an active Wire session and are cleared immediately when you leave the Wire or close the app.

Apple Maps and Google Maps are used exclusively as the rendering and routing layer. Location data shared with these providers is governed by Apple's and Google's respective privacy policies. Locwire does not receive, store, or control any data that is passed directly between your device and Apple or Google mapping services.

2.3 Trip History

When you travel with location sharing active inside a Wire, Locwire records your trip as a structured log. Each trip entry includes:

• Start and end timestamps
• Waypoints along the route (sampled every few seconds)
• Stop detections (location, duration)
• Average and peak speed per segment
• Total distance covered

Trip history data is retained for exactly 7 calendar days from the date of the trip, after which it is automatically and permanently deleted from all Locwire systems. You may also request immediate deletion at any time.

2.4 Wire and Social Data

• Wire name, unique invite code, and creation date
• Your role within each Wire (Admin or Member)
• Member join and leave timestamps
• In-app messages sent within a Wire (retained for 30 days)
• Place alert configurations (home, school, work, custom locations)

2.5 Technical and Device Data

• Device model and operating system version
• App version number
• Anonymised crash and error reports (retained 90 days)
• Session activity logs for fraud detection and service integrity

4. Your Right to Data Deletion

Under applicable data protection law — including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDPA) 2023, and equivalent regional legislation — you have the unqualified right to request the permanent deletion of all personal data Locwire holds about you. This right is sometimes called the "right to erasure" or the "right to be forgotten".

4.1 What "Complete Deletion" Means

When you submit a full account deletion request, Locwire will permanently and irreversibly delete:

• Your account credentials, email address, and profile information
• All trip history associated with your account
• Your Wire membership records and any Wires you administered
• All in-app messages you sent
• Your device data, notification preferences, and app settings
• Any backups containing your personal data (within the 45-day window)

The following narrow exceptions apply — data may be retained beyond the standard deletion window ONLY where:

• Retention is required by applicable law or a regulatory order (e.g. fraud investigations initiated by law enforcement)
• A wire-transfer or financial transaction requires a legally mandated audit trail (does not apply to the free tier)
• The data has already been irrevocably anonymised and cannot be de-anonymised or linked to you

4.2 Partial Deletion Options

You do not have to delete your entire account. You may also request partial deletion of:

1. Trip history only — delete all trips or trips from a specific date range, without closing your account
2. Wire data only — leave a Wire and have your participation history and messages purged from that Wire
3. Place alerts — delete all saved locations associated with your account
4. Profile photo — remove your photo while retaining your account

5. How to Submit a Deletion Request

There are three ways to request deletion of your data:

5.1 Information Required

To verify your identity and process your request securely, please provide:

• The email address registered with your Locwire account
• Your Locwire display name or account ID (found in Settings → Account)
• A brief description of what you want deleted (full account, trip history, specific Wire data, etc.)

We will never ask for your password, payment card details, or government-issued ID as part of a data deletion request.

6. Deletion Timeline and Process

Once we receive and verify your request, deletion proceeds in the following stages:

If we are unable to complete deletion within 45 days due to a legal hold or exceptional technical circumstance, we will notify you by email before Day 30 explaining the reason and the expected extended completion date.

7. Automatic Data Deletion

Locwire operates automated deletion schedules that run independently of user-initiated requests. You do not need to take any action for the following automatic deletions to occur:

7.1 Trip History — 7-Day Auto-Purge

A background job runs daily at 02:00 UTC and permanently deletes any trip history records that are older than 7 calendar days. This applies to all users without exception. Trip data cannot be recovered once deleted.

7.2 In-App Messages — 30-Day Auto-Purge

Messages sent within Wire groups are automatically deleted 30 days after the send date. Wire administrators cannot override this deletion schedule.

7.3 Crash and Device Logs — 90-Day Auto-Purge

Anonymised crash reports and device telemetry data are automatically purged after 90 days from all analytics and monitoring systems.

7.4 Inactive Account Data

If your account has had no login activity for 24 consecutive months, Locwire will send a 30-day reactivation notice to your registered email. If the account remains inactive after this notice period, all associated data will be permanently deleted in line with this policy.

8. Wire-Specific Data Deletion

Wires are private location groups that may contain data belonging to multiple users. The following rules govern deletion of Wire-associated data:

8.1 Leaving a Wire

When you leave a Wire:

• Your live location is immediately removed from the Wire's shared map
• Your membership record is marked as inactive within the Wire
• Your historical location appearances within that Wire's shared view are removed within 24 hours
• Messages you sent within that Wire are retained for the standard 30 days before auto-purge

8.2 Deleting a Wire (App Admin Only)

If you are the Wire administrator and you choose to delete the Wire:

• All members are immediately removed from the Wire
• The Wire's invite code is invalidated instantly
• All Wire-level messages are deleted within 24 hours
• Wire membership records for all members are purged within 30 days
• Each member retains their own individual trip history for the standard 7-day window

8.3 Full Account Deletion with Active Wire Membership

If you delete your account while you are a member of one or more active Wires:

• You are automatically removed from all Wires immediately
• If you were the sole administrator of a Wire, that Wire is automatically disbanded and all members are notified
• If other administrators exist, the Wire continues without you and your data within it is deleted per this policy

9. Apple Maps and Google Maps Data

Locwire uses Apple Maps on iOS and Google Maps on both iOS and Android as the underlying map rendering and location services layer. It is important to understand how data flows through these integrations:

9.1 What Locwire Controls

• Locwire reads your GPS or GPRS location from your device's operating system and shares it with your Wire members via our servers
• We do not share your identity, account details, or Wire membership information with Apple or Google
• Locwire cannot access any data Apple or Google independently collect about your device or location

9.2 What Apple and Google Control

Apple and Google may independently collect technical data related to map rendering, traffic, and search features as part of their mapping SDKs. This data is governed entirely by Apple's Privacy Policy (apple.com/privacy) and Google's Privacy Policy (policies.google.com/privacy). Locwire's data deletion process does not extend to data held independently by Apple or Google.

If you wish to request deletion of data held by Apple Maps or Google Maps, you must submit those requests directly to Apple and Google respectively.

9.3 Location Mode and Data Accuracy

• GPS Mode: Coordinates are derived from satellite positioning. These are highly accurate and are used for detailed route tracking when you are outdoors.
• GPRS Mode: Coordinates are derived from cellular network tower triangulation. Used automatically when GPS is unavailable. Accuracy varies by network density in your area.

Neither GPS nor GPRS coordinates are stored by Locwire beyond the active real-time session. They are transmitted to Wire members' devices for display and are not written to any Locwire database.

10. Children's Privacy and Parental Deletion Requests

Locwire is intended for users aged 13 and above. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under the age of 13.

If you are the parent or legal guardian of a user under 13 whose data has been collected without your consent, or if you are the parent of a user between 13 and 17 and wish to request deletion of their data, please contact us at privacy@locwire.com with:

• The child's registered email address or display name
• Proof of your relationship (parental declaration — no official documents required)
• A description of the data you want deleted

Parental deletion requests are processed with the same 45-day timeline and are treated with the highest priority.

11. Data Portability Before Deletion

Before submitting a deletion request, you may wish to export a copy of your data. Locwire supports data export through:

• Email Request: Send a request to privacy@locwire.com — we will provide a downloadable export within 72 hours

Once deletion is processed, exported data in your possession remains your responsibility. Locwire cannot recover deleted data after the process is complete.

13. Changes to This Policy

Locwire reserves the right to update this Data Deletion Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our services, technology, legal obligations, or regulatory guidance. When we make material changes, we will:

• Post the updated policy at locwire.com/data-deletion with a revised effective date
• Send a notification to your registered email address at least 14 days before the changes take effect
• Display an in-app notice the next time you open Locwire after the update is published

Continued use of Locwire after the effective date of an updated policy constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms.
