Privacy Policy

1. Introduction and Acceptance of Terms

Welcome to Locwire.com ("Locwire," "we," "our," or "us"). Locwire is a mobile application designed to enable real-time location sharing among groups of trusted users through the concept of a "Wire" — a shared group environment where all members can view each other's live positions on an integrated map interface.

This Privacy Policy ("Policy") describes in comprehensive detail how Locwire collects, uses, processes, stores, shares, protects, and manages personal information — particularly sensitive location data — from users of our mobile application. By downloading, installing, registering for, or using the Locwire application, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to the terms of this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service.

Given that location data is inherently sensitive and personal, we take our data stewardship responsibilities with the utmost seriousness. Our practices are designed to be transparent, minimal, purposeful, and secure. We strongly encourage you to read this policy in its entirety.

2. Definitions

For the purposes of this Privacy Policy, the following terms shall have the meanings ascribed to them below:

3. Information We Collect

Locwire collects several categories of personal information in order to provide its core services. Below is a detailed breakdown of each category, the specific data points involved, and the means by which they are collected.

3.1 Account & Registration Information

When you create a Locwire account, we collect the following information, which is necessary to set up and manage your user profile:

3.2 Location Data — The Core of Our Service

Location data is the primary data type processed by Locwire. Given the sensitive nature of this data, we wish to be especially clear about how it is collected, used, and managed.

3.2.1 Real-Time (Live) Location

When you are an active Member of a Wire, Locwire continuously collects your geographic coordinates — specifically latitude and longitude — in real time. This data is collected at regular intervals (configurable in settings) and transmitted to our servers for display to other Wire Members on the map interface. Live location collection begins when you activate your presence in a Wire and ceases when you exit the Wire, disable location sharing, or close the application (subject to background permissions granted by you).

3.2.2 Location Tracking Methods

GPS (Global Positioning System)
Locwire uses device GPS hardware when available and when location permissions are granted. GPS provides the highest degree of accuracy (typically within 3 to 10 meters) and is the default tracking mode when outdoors with a clear sky view. GPS-based tracking operates independently of cellular connectivity.

GPRS (General Packet Radio Service / Cell Tower Triangulation)
As a fallback or supplement, Locwire may use GPRS-based location (cell tower signal triangulation) in scenarios where GPS signal is weak or unavailable — such as indoors, in tunnels, or in areas with GPS interference. GPRS location accuracy is lower than GPS (typically within 100 to 1,000 meters) and depends on the density of nearby cellular towers. Users will be notified within the app when GPRS mode is active.

3.2.3 Trip Recording & History

When location tracking is active, Locwire records your movement data to compile individual Trip records. Each Trip record contains:

Trips are stored in your personal Trip History, which is accessible only to you unless explicitly shared. Trip History is retained in accordance with the data retention schedule described in Section 9 of this Policy.

3.3 Device & Technical Information

To provide, optimize, and troubleshoot our services, we automatically collect certain technical information from your device:

3.4 Wire Usage & Behavioral Data

We collect data related to how you use the Locwire application, including:

3.5 Communications & Support Data

If you contact our support team or provide feedback, we may collect:

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect strictly for the purposes described below. We do not use your data for purposes beyond those stated without obtaining your prior consent.

4.1 Core Application Functionality

4.2 Service Improvement & Analytics

4.3 Safety, Security & Legal Compliance

4.4 Communications

5. Location Data — Detailed Practices

Because location data is uniquely sensitive, we dedicate this section to addressing the specific ways in which Locwire accesses, transmits, stores, and protects your location information.

5.1 Location Permission Levels

Locwire requests the following device location permissions, depending on user activity and platform:

You may revoke location permissions at any time through your device settings. However, revoking permissions will disable all real-time location sharing and trip-tracking functionality.

5.2 Location Data Transmission

5.3 Location Data Visibility Controls

Locwire provides you with meaningful controls over the visibility of your location:

5.4 Precision and Accuracy Disclosure

GPS mode provides high-accuracy location data (typically 3–10 meters). GPRS/Cell-tower mode provides lower-accuracy location approximations (typically 100–1,000 meters). Locwire clearly indicates within the app interface which location method is currently active for each user, so that Members are informed of the accuracy level being displayed.

6. Wires, Groups & Location Sharing with Other Users

6.1 Wire Creation & Membership

6.2 What Wire Members Can See

When you are active in a Wire, the following information about you is visible to all other active Members of that Wire:

Wire Members do NOT have access to your account details, device identifiers, or any information outside the Wire's active location-sharing session, unless you explicitly choose to share additional information.

6.3 Host Controls

Wire Hosts have additional administrative capabilities:

7. Third-Party Map Providers & Integrations

7.1 Apple Maps

Locwire integrates Apple Maps (provided by Apple Inc.) to render map tiles, geocoding, reverse geocoding, and navigation overlays on iOS devices. When you use Locwire on an Apple device, your location coordinates and map interactions may be processed by Apple in accordance with Apple's Privacy Policy. We encourage iOS users to review Apple's Privacy Policy at https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/. Locwire does not have access to, nor does it receive, Apple's internal processing of location data submitted to Apple Maps.

7.2 Google Maps

Locwire integrates Google Maps (provided by Google LLC) on Android devices and may optionally offer Google Maps on iOS. Location coordinates, map viewport data, and route information may be processed by Google in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy. We encourage all users to review Google's Privacy Policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy. Locwire does not control or receive data that Google independently collects through its Maps SDK.
